sept. 2005 To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Gergiev Festival a bewitching collection of 4 cd's has been released with Valery Gergiev's personal choice of the festival-tapes. Besides close attention for the romantic and early twenties Russian school (Tchaikovsky- Prokofjev and Shostakovich), also the mystic music of Debussy and Ravel with la Mer and the Dapfne and Cloé suite nr.2 have their turn. That is music which is equally exclusive as the way of conducting of Valery Gergiev. Where von Karajan accentuated every instrument separately as a link in a mosaic, Valery Gergiev's recordings remind you of spontaneous accounts in a marvelous morning mist. Now and then the rising lights fight with a solar eclipse from the basses, then follows a tempest of percussion, or the sunrise with the violins. This all takes place between the limits of the famous lowering and rising hand motions, his fluttering fingers and his compelling facial expressions.
